- Ingredient lists or product names you enter or scan into the App
- Product barcodes you scan
- Feedback or support requests you send us
Information Collected Automatically
- Device information: device type, operating system, and version
- App usage data: features used, screens viewed, scan frequency
- Crash reports and performance data
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA on iOS, GAID on Android), used for serving ads to free users via Google AdMob
Purchase Information
If you purchase a Pro subscription, payment is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not store your payment card details. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription status and entitlements.
Information We Do NOT Collect
- We do not require you to create an account or provide your name or email address to use the App
- We do not collect health or medical information
- We do not collect location data
- We do not sell your personal information to third parties
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and improve the App and its features
- Process your ingredient and product scan requests via the Anthropic Claude AI API
- Manage your subscription status via RevenueCat
- Display relevant advertisements to free users via Google AdMob
- Analyse app usage to fix bugs and improve performance
- Respond to your support requests
- Comply with legal obligations
4. Artificial Intelligence and Third-Party Processing
Important: When you scan a product or enter an ingredient list, the ingredient data is sent to the Anthropic API for analysis. Please do not enter any personal or sensitive information into the ingredient fields.
Anthropic (Claude AI API)
- Purpose: AI-powered ingredient analysis
- Data sent: Ingredient lists and product names you submit
- No personal identifying information is sent to Anthropic

Google AdMob
- Purpose: Serving advertisements to free-tier users
- Data collected: Advertising identifiers, device information, usage data
- AdMob may use this data to serve personalised or contextual ads

RevenueCat
- Purpose: Subscription and purchase management
- Data collected: Purchase history, subscription status, device identifiers

Open Beauty Facts / INCIDecoder
- Purpose: Barcode product lookup and product ingredient data
- Data sent: Product barcode numbers and product name search queries only
- These are publicly accessible databases. No personal data is transmitted
5. Scan History and Local Storage
Your scan history and saved products are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. This data does not leave your device. You can clear your scan history at any time within the App settings.
6. Advertising
Free users of the App will see advertisements served by Google AdMob. If you do not wish to see ads, you can upgrade to a Pro subscription.
You can manage your ad preferences:
- iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising → turn off Personalised Ads
- Android: Settings → Google → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalisation
7. Data Retention
- Scan history is stored locally on your device until you delete it
- Usage and analytics data is retained for up to 24 months
- If you contact us for support, we retain your correspondence for up to 3 years
- When you delete the App, locally stored data is removed from your device
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, or to object to certain uses. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello.facefacts.app@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
9. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the European Union). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
10. International Users
FaceFacts is operated from New Zealand and is available globally. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to New Zealand or the countries where our third-party providers operate (including the United States).
11. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the date above and, where appropriate, by displaying a notice in the App.
